st Parent Involvement Conference

The Leake County School District’s Annual Title I Parent Involvement Conference was held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Leake Central Elementary School.

The goal of the annual parent conference was to provide parents with valuable information and to explain how to become active partners in their children’s education. The conference featured a variety of activities and discussions on numerous topics.

Events this year included outstanding student performances from each of the schools within the Leake County School District. Students entertained the parents with cheers, songs, creative dances, and poetry readings.

Informational updates were provided from the following departments:  Office of Federal Programs, Special Services, Food and Nutrition, Response to Intervention, Differentiated Classroom Instruction, and English Learner Program.

While parents were given the opportunity to soak in plenty information and enjoy student performances, their children ages four to twelve were treated to face painting, musical chairs, and other games.

In addition, nurses from Leake Memorial Hospital
sponsored a health fair. Free blood pressure checks as well as screenings for glucose were provided. Simmons Eye Care was on hand to offer free vision screening. The Mississippi Extension Office provided information about various programs offered through the extension services.

Local merchants and banks donated a variety of door prizes for the conference as well.
